Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Riverside County Democratic Party (RCDP) endorsement process. Congratulations on seeking elective office!
Candidate Requirement
To be considered for endorsement, you must have been registered as a Democrat for at least 90 days prior to becoming a qualified candidate by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.
Endorsement Process Summary
The RCDP endorsement process consists of two parts: (1) a recommendation by the Endorsement Caucus of the Assembly District (AD) Delegation in the district where your race is located and (2) a vote on that recommendation by the entire membership of the RCDP. The AD Delegation consists of RCDP members who reside in that specific district.
The RCDP initiates the endorsement process for non-partisan offices after the close of filing. This process requires the completion of a questionnaire as well as an interview.
Candidate Engagement
You will be contacted by your Assembly District (AD) Delegation Chair, who will send you the questionnaire with the deadline for completion.
Once your completed questionnaire has been returned, the AD Delegation Chair will contact you with the time and date for the interview that will be conducted during the Endorsement Caucus meeting. Currently, these meetings are held via zoom. If the seat you are seeking is located in more than one Assembly District, the interviewing Delegation will consist of members of all districts in question.
Decision
After your interview, you will be excused from the meeting, whereupon the Delegation will discuss your interview and questionnaire. Once all candidates for the office you are seeking are interviewed, the Endorsement Caucus will hold a vote. You will be notified within 72 hours of their recommendation.
Subsequently, the entire RCDP membership will vote on the AD Delegation endorsement recommendations for all offices in the upcoming election, and you will be invited to attend that meeting.
