Condemning Donald J. Trump and Certain Republican Members of Congress for Seditious Behavior Following the 2020 National Election

Whereas Donald J. Trump obstructed the peaceful transition of power from one Administration to the next, as is the custom and tradition of the United States of America; and

Whereas Donald J. Trump attempted to overturn a fair and legal election by claiming voter fraud with no evidence, by pressuring election officials in Georgia to fraudulently find new votes in order to change the election outcome, and by attempting to disrupt the counting of the Electoral votes in the Joint Session of Congress by inciting a violent mob of supporters to march on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021; and

Whereas certain Republican members of Congress supported Donald J. Trump’s attack on the validity of the election, despite any evidence of fraud, by voting against the certification of the tally of the votes of the Electoral College;

Therefore be it resolved, that the Riverside County Democratic Party condemn and censure Donald J. Trump for his seditious behavior in attempting to overturn the fair and legitimate election of November 3, 2020, including fomenting insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021; and

Be it further resolved,  that the Riverside County Democratic Party also condemn and censure any United States Senator or Representative who voted against the certification of the votes of the United States Electoral College on January 6, 2021, including Riverside County Representatives Ken Calvert (CD 42) and Darryl Issa (CD 50).
