RCDP Endorses Lisa Middleton for California’s 19th Senate District

RCDP Endorses Lisa Middleton for California’s 19th Senate District

A Champion for Progress, Battling Extremism

Riverside, CA – The Riverside County Democratic Party is proud to endorse Lisa Middleton for the 19th State Senate District. Middleton is a former mayor of Palm Springs and the first openly transgender person elected to a non-judicial position in California. Her leadership is focused on the issues that matter most: affordable housing, protecting reproductive rights, improving infrastructure, and defending the rights of all Californians.

Middleton is committed to building a more equitable and prosperous future. As mayor of Palm Springs, she boosted salaries for public safety workers, expanded the city’s financial reserves, and supported small businesses. She improved regional infrastructure, expanded affordable housing, and advanced environmental sustainability.

In contrast, her incumbent opponent Ochoa Bogh has repeatedly voted against the values of Riverside County residents. Bogh stands in opposition to reproductive rights, with a 0% score from Planned Parenthood. As Senator, Bogh opposed raising the minimum wage for California’s workers, denying many families the chance to make a living wage. Bough attempted to require schools to teach about anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers. She also voted against LGBTQ+ protections and opposed transgender-affirming healthcare.

Lisa Middleton’s platform is grounded in real solutions. She has consistently supported expanding healthcare access, protecting reproductive freedom, and securing good-paying jobs for working families. Middleton is running to ensure that every resident in the 19th District has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background. Her campaign is about fighting for all Californians—not just the few. The Riverside County Democratic Party proudly endorses Lisa Middleton, a leader who will stand up for our district’s values and make real progress.Middleton is committed to building a more equitable and prosperous future. Why Would Donald Trump Hold a Rally in Coachella?

Susan Dye · October 11, 2024 ·

Why Would Donald Trump

Hold a Rally in Coachella?

His Platform Is an Attack on the Very People Who Call It Home

Riverside, CA –This Saturday, Donald Trump will hold a rally in the city of Coachella—a community where over 97% of the population is Latino and whose values of diversity, compassion, and inclusion stand in stark contrast to everything he represents. The Riverside County Democratic Party questions why a candidate whose policies have repeatedly harmed Latino families and other vulnerable communities would choose to hold a rally in a city so clearly at odds with his agenda.

Coachella is a diverse community, where families work hard to build a better future. Many of these people have borne the brunt of Trump’s cruel immigration policies, from children being torn from their parents’ arms at the border to families—including some American citizens—living in fear of being swept up as part of a mass deportation. Trump’s platform, clearly spelled out in the proposed Project 2025, threatens to tear apart the very fabric of this community with plans to cut Medicaid, roll back the Affordable Care Act, and eliminate crucial programs like Head Start—all of which disproportionately impact Latino and working-class families.

Why would Trump come to a place like Coachella, where his promise of mass deportation and militarized enforcement strikes fear into the hearts of so many residents? His vision of a future where unions are dismantled, wages are suppressed, and American immigrant communities are targeted for “denaturalization” is not the future that the people of Coachella want or deserve.

Coachella stands as a symbol of resilience and unity—a place where families, workers, and students come together to build a better, fairer future. Trump’s policies have only served to harm these efforts, and his presence here is nothing more than a disruption to a community that has long rejected his politics of division and fear.

The Riverside County Democratic Party proudly stands with the people of Coachella and the entire Coachella Valley in support of the values of justice, equality, and opportunity for all—values that are fundamentally at odds with Trump’s agenda. His rally may come and go, but our community’s fight for a better future will continue long after his divisive rhetoric fades.

Sabrina Cervantes: A Proven Leader for California’s 31st Senate District

Sabrina Cervantes: A Proven Leader for California’s 31st Senate District

A Champion for Justice, Standing
Against Extremism to Protect Our Values and Our Future

Riverside, CA – The Riverside County Democratic Party is thrilled to endorse Sabrina Cervantes for the 31st State Senate District. A lifelong Riverside County resident and working mother of triplets, Cervantes has spent the last seven years in the State Legislature fighting for the issues that matter most to our community—education, job creation, and protecting reproductive rights.

Sabrina Cervantes has delivered for our district. She has brought over $650 million in state funding for projects that directly benefit Riverside County, including expanding the UC Riverside Medical School and building much-needed parks and green spaces. She’s also worked to secure jobs for our residents, opening a new trade school in Jurupa Valley to provide in-demand skills for well-paying careers. As a leader on healthcare and reproductive rights, Cervantes co-authored the state’s constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights, ensuring California remains a bastion of freedom in the face of national attacks on reproductive healthcare.

But as we look to the future, we also need to be clear about the risk posed by her opponent, Cynthia Navarro. Navarro’s platform includes opposition to critical state mandates that are designed to protect our environment, promote equity, and ensure statewide progress. Her positions undermine the very protections that make California a leader in environmental sustainability and social justice.

Navarro has also been vocal in her opposition to state-level educational standards that promote inclusivity and diversity, aligning herself with the far-right rhetoric that seeks to remove progressive curricula from schools. This stands in direct contrast to Cervantes’ work to expand educational access and opportunity for all students, regardless of background. Navarro’s vision for Riverside County is one that threatens to roll back years of progress on issues that directly affect our families, schools, and environment.

In this election, the choice is clear. Sabrina Cervantes stands for progress, equity, and community, while Cynthia Navarro represents a step backward toward policies that do not reflect the values of Riverside County. The Riverside County Democratic Party proudly stands behind Sabrina Cervantes and urges voters to support her in the upcoming election.

RCDP Endorses Democrat Elizabeth Tucker for Superior Court Judge

29 Years of Public Service, Committed to Expanding

Access to Justice for Families and Youth

Riverside, CA –The Riverside County Democratic Party is proud to endorse Elizabeth Tucker for Riverside County Superior Court Judge. With an outstanding 29 years in public service, Tucker is the only candidate in this race with both judicial and prosecutorial experience, making her uniquely qualified to serve Riverside County’s diverse community.

Tucker spent over two decades as a Riverside County Deputy District Attorney, where she successfully prosecuted serious and violent crimes, including child abuse and domestic violence cases. In her current role as Superior Court Commissioner, she presides over a wide variety of cases with the same authority as a Superior Court Judge. From criminal matters to juvenile justice and probate cases, Tucker’s expertise covers the full scope of courtroom proceedings.

What sets Tucker apart is her dedication to juvenile justice. She has extensive experience working on juvenile justice cases, and she is passionate about expanding access to justice for families and youth, the better to ensure that Riverside County provides young people with the support they need to avoid a lifetime in the criminal justice system. “I’d like to bring more resources to our families and our juveniles to help get kids out of the court system,” says Tucker. Tucker’s compassionate approach seeks to break the cycle by offering solutions that address the underlying causes of juvenile delinquency, focusing on rehabilitation and family support.

Beyond the courtroom, Tucker is a dedicated community leader. She has been a proud member of Rotary International for 12 years, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a long-time volunteer in the Riverside County Mock Trial competition, mentoring high school students who have gone on to pursue legal careers. Her commitment to community service is a testament to her character and her desire to make Riverside County a better place for all.

In this race, Tucker’s unmatched experience as a Deputy DA and Superior Court Commissioner positions her as the clear choice for Riverside County. Her track record of fairness, integrity, and community involvement makes her ready to step into the role of Superior Court Judge and deliver justice on day one. We heartily and proudly endorse her.

Ken Calvert Must Step Up and Debate Will Rollins

Ken Calvert Must Step Up and Debate Will Rollins

Calvert Dodges Debates as Rollins Emerges as a Strong Alternative for
California’s 41st District

The Riverside County Democratic Party calls on Congressman Ken Calvert to respect the intelligence and expectations of his constituents by committing to a public debate with his challenger.

Despite multiple invitations and increasing pressure, Calvert has not agreed to debate. This reluctance to engage in a direct dialogue is not just a disservice to the voters; it also suggests a lack of confidence in his own record and positions.

Will Rollins holds a lead over Calvert, with 21% of the electorate undecided. A debate provides a unique opportunity for Calvert to sway the voters in his favor.  Perhaps he believes his record speaks for itself:

  • Calvert failed to disclose certain real estate investments that could benefit from federal funds he helped steer, raising questions about his transparency and ethics.
  • Calvert opposed environmental protections, including measures to address climate change. His ties to the oil and gas industry compromise his ability to represent the interests of Californians and the planet.
  • Calvert fought against vulnerable populations, having opposed efforts to expand access to healthcare for veterans and critical social services like childcare and food assistance.

Will Rollins has already accepted invitations to debate and is eager to discuss his vision for the district, which includes strengthening environmental protections, expanding healthcare access, and ensuring that government works for all Californians—not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Show a little backbone, Congressman. Step up and confront your record. The voters demand and deserve it.
