Greg Wallis’s Endorsement of Sheriff Chad Bianco

riversidecostg · July 16, 2024 ·

Greg Wallis’s Endorsement of Sheriff Chad Bianco

Riverside, CA, June 21, 2024

The Riverside County Democratic Party condemns Assemblymember for the 47th Greg Wallis’s recent endorsement of Sheriff Chad Bianco for governor. With this endorsement , Wallis has revealed his true colors, now aligning himself publicly with Bianco’s extreme far-right views and associations.

Sheriff Chad Bianco’s alignment with the January 6th insurrectionists and his consistent promotion of extremist ideologies are well-documented and stand in stark contrast to the principles of democracy, unity, and justice that our community values. His record as sheriff has been marred by controversy, divisiveness, and actions that undermine the trust and safety of our residents. Assemblymember Wallis’s decision to endorse Bianco raises serious questions about his commitment to genuine bipartisan representation. As an elected official, Wallis has campaigned on bridging divides and representing all constituents. Endorsing a figure as polarizing and extreme as Bianco, one who enthusiastically endorses Putting A Felon In The Whitehouse, is a betrayal of that promise and helps normalize extremist views within our political discourse. Riverside County deserves leaders who stand for inclusivity, justice, and the fundamental principles of democracy. Sheriff Bianco’s track record is a stark antithesis to these values. In these challenging times, it is more crucial than ever to support leaders who are committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of all individuals, rather than those who seek to divide and incite discord. That leader for the Assembly in the 47th is Democratic candidate Christy Holstege. The Riverside County Democratic Party remains dedicated to promoting candidates and policies that reflect the true spirit of democracy, equity, and justice for all.

A Win for Democracy in Temecula

Preliminary results from the recall election of an extremist school board president in Temecula send a powerful message: Riverside County refuses to tolerate bigotry and extremism, even in its most conservative areas. This truly bipartisan outcome demonstrates the strength of our collective values and our commitment to upholding principles of inclusivity, equality, and democracy .
By decisively removing an individual who espoused views contrary to these values, we have reaffirmed our dedication to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our diverse communities, especially our children who deserve access to education free from prejudice and discrimination.

This victory in Temecula serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, illustrating that when we come together with courage and determination, we can overcome even the most entrenched divisions and build a brighter future for generations to come. Let this be a reminder of the importance of both our individual agency and collective responsibility in creating a more inclusive and equitable Riverside County for all.

This Is What Democracy Looks Like

riversidecostg · July 16, 2024 ·

This Is What Democracy Looks Like

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, after weeks of testimony and days of deliberation in a New York courtroom, former president Trump was found guilty on thirty-four felony counts.

Twelve courageous men and women served as jurors, braving the constant threat of retribution from Trump and his followers. The jury turned in a verdict of “guilty” on all counts of influencing the outcome of the 2016 election.  Trump is now the first convicted ex-president in American history. Sentencing will occur in July.

This day is historic on many levels. It shows that no one is above the law, even a former President.  Faith in our justice system is restored when those who have held the most powerful office in the land are held accountable for their crimes. The systems put in place by the founders of our nation ensure that elections and jury trials are decided by the common citizen. Every one of us possesses the same courage that the New York jury showed as they continued to serve, ignoring the commentary coming from Trump despite his gag order. Threats came from his adult sons, Trump followers, and former insurrectionists, who promised to make January 6th look like a training day if they lost this November.

Instead, we push forward as those jurors did. They did their job in the courtroom; now we have a job to do in November. We celebrate the verdict knowing that it sets the stage for future trials of Trump’s greater crimes. We celebrate yet know that we still must turn out in the greatest numbers we can muster for a November victory. No one can sit this election out. Trump’s followers are more motivated than ever before. They’ll be there to gaslight bully, and terrify us, attempting to stop us from voting.

Let this jury of twelve men and women be an inspiration. They did their job in carrying this trial through to its ultimate goal: justice. This battle for upholding Democracy was won.

Together, let’s win the war.

Murrieta Valley Board of Education Transgender Policy Upheld

Murrieta Valley Board of Education Transgender Policy Upheld

Riverside, CA – 04/22/2024

In an unsurprising twist in the saga of ultra-conservative school boards in southwest Riverside County, the Murrieta Valley Board of Education, in a 3-2 vote held on Thursday, April 18, made the choice to defy an order to end its illegal and discriminatory practice, as defined by an April 10th California Department of Education report, of notifying a student’s parents if the student has signaled to any school district employee that they wish to be identified as a gender other than that which they were biologically assigned at birth. To be clear, this does not involve any sort of medical or surgical treatment as no school is authorized to do this. It often concerns something as benign as a change of name or nickname and pronouns and may be emotionally and psychologically meaningful to trans youth.

The Murrieta Valley Board of Education seems less interested in the welfare of youth, or even the true interests of parents. Area Christian Nationalists and other right wing extremist groups are using our local school boards as so many pawns on a chess board to fight Sacramento, spending everyone’s tax dollars in a relentless pursuit of throwing a wrench in the spokes of what they see as a “woke” machine, recklessly hurting anyone and anything in their path. Everyone comes out losing in this process, both targeted trans children who are the victims and their parents, while extremists use these opportunities to stoke incendiary hatred and bigotry in their effort to oppress and erode our freedoms.

We call on Governor Gavin Newsom, Superintendent Tony Thurmond and Attorney General Rob Bonta to make good on their promise to take control of these schools who continue to defy the laws that protect our children from outside forces of hate, including these draconian forced “outing” policies. No one is above the law. If former Presidents can be held accountable, so can rogue school boards.

Resolution: Condemning Texas & Florida Republican Governors for Illicit Behavior at Southern Border with Mexico

riversidecostg · July 6, 2024 ·

Resolution

Condemning Texas & Florida Republican Governors for Illicit Behavior at Southern Border with Mexico

WHEREAS in order to extend and exacerbate the situation at the border and thereby prevent the Biden Administration from taking any credit for making progress towards a solution, Republicans are blocking the passage of any immigration legislation and attempting to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas with fabricated accusations; and

WHEREAS the Florida Governor is now deploying Florida’s National Guard to stand with Texas’ National Guard and other state officers to arrest migrants, instead of turning them over to Border Patrol where their asylum claims can be processed in accordance with US and international laws;

WHEREAS the National Democratic Party currently supports a negotiated two-state solution that ensures Israel’s future as a Jewish and Democratic state with recognized borders and upholds the riht of Palestinians to live in freedom and security in a viable state of their own.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Riverside County Democratic Party opposes these illegal intrusions on Federal authority and jurisdiction by state and National Guard troops and condemns the governors of Florida and Texas for ordering them.
